The TummyTub® |

Simple, safe and practical!
The natural way to bath your baby. |
|
|
The TummyTub® is a baby bath, designed in the Netherlands by
professional caregivers, to ease the transition from the comfort of the
mother's womb to the new, big world.
Babies naturally adapt back to the fetal position and it is amazing to
see how quickly they calm and relax.
The benefits of the TummyTub® are acknowledged in maternity hospitals
and homes throughout the world. Endorsed by physicians, midwives and
nursery nurses. Check out the international TummyTub® website www.tummy-tub.com
and find out for yourself that this unique baby bath is being sold and
used all over the world.
The advantages of bathing in the
TummyTub®:
 | Bathing in the familiar fetal position - helps babies feel reassured
and relaxed
 | Stress free bathing for both baby and parent - excellent for colicky
babies
 | Anti-skid base and low center of gravity for safety and stability
 | Compact size - takes less space and less use of water
 | Especially useful for premature babies
 | Ergonomic hand grips and extremely lightweight
 | Made of environmentally friendly materials
 | Less surface area of water, the water stays warm for approx. 20
min.!
 | Water level indication, so you know exactly how much water to put in
the tub, depending on the weight of the baby
 | Simple, safe and practical
 | TÜV and BSI tested and approved
 | The TummyTub® is permitted to carry the seal GS (Proven Safety). |

When developing the TummyTub®, no less than 17 different forms of
bathing-buckets were tested by midwives and maternity ward nurses in their
daily practice. The first prototypes (see pictures) were discarded by them
as either too wide, whereby the babies could not feel the sides and
therefore were not reassured or were not deep enough to allow the babies
to be sufficiently immersed in water to keep warm. The smaller TummyTub®
would also mean the babies would outgrow it much sooner. The head support
may have looked very attractive but also proved to be unpractical, as the
baby could only be held comfortably from one side.
 |
Drawing 1:
Too large - the baby cannot find support on either side, also the
neck support is useless!
Drawing 2:
Too wide in front - the baby cannot find support for its legs
Drawing 3:
Too wide - the baby is not secure. There is also limited room to maneuver
for the parents because of the head support.

The water volume
You decide on how much water you need to bath your baby. The water
level markings on the tub are intended only as a guide, as not every baby
is the same size. However, in the first few weeks after birth it is
important that there is sufficient water to cover your baby's shoulders.
This will ensure your baby does not get cold.
The graduated body weight scale for the "floating" position
If you prefer to bath your baby in the "floating" position,
the TummyTub® can be filled to varying levels above the lowest line
depending upon the weight of your baby. The scale on the side will help
you to decide to what level it should be filled so that there will be a
balance between the water and the body weight of the baby. That means that
the baby will be "floating" and their bum does not rest on the
bottom of the tub. The scale starts as low as 4 lbs. and you can choose to
use this "floating" position until your baby is 17 lbs. After
your baby’s weight has reached 17 lbs. you can go to the
"sitting" position.
The water level marking for the "sitting" position
The TummyTub® has a marking (a
line that goes all around the tub) that will show you the guideline to
where the tub can be filled with water in order for the baby to be bathed
in the "sitting" position.
The water temperature
The water temperature should be between 35°C and 37°C. The
temperature can be taken with a baby bath thermometer and for extra safety
you can use the "elbow test". Because of the small water surface
area of the TummyTub®, the water will remain at a comfortable temperature
for about 20 minutes.
Never leave your baby alone while bathing.
Why not a regular bucket?
 | Regular buckets don't have an anti-skid bottom. The bottom is not
curved and therefore does not give the baby any support.
 | Babies discover their new world by touching with their hands and
tasting with their mouth. The pigments in plastic buckets will most
likely contain toxic elements, as regular buckets are not meant for
bathing babies.
 | The handle of the bucket can easily hurt the fingers of the baby. It
also does brings an extra risk, as an older brother or sister could -
by holding it - pull the bucket from the table.
 | Regular buckets are too low and narrow. The water level is therefore
also too low and the children can't stay warm. Apart from that mother
and child are hindered in their movements. However simply using a
bigger bucket doesn't give the child the support and a comfortable
sitting position.
 | A regular bucket would never have the TÜV and BSI approval for baby
bathing. |
